FUNERAL OF MAN SHOT IN QUARREL IS HELD Lowry, Fatally wounded in Quarrel Over Wife is Buried in Manti Manti, March 22--- Closing the last chapter of a restless life, funeral services for Orson Lowry, 36 years of age, who died at L.D.S. hospital in Salt Lake Tuesday night of wounds received in a duel Sunday with Fred Olsen at Ferron, Emery county, were held this afternoon at Manti. Attending the funeral were his divorced wife and children, together with many relatives. Meeting his divorced wife and two children at Ferron Sunday with Fred Olsen, whom he suspected of being responsible for matrimonial misunderstanding, Lowry whipped out a revolver. After the first shot, which grazed Olsen's arm, the weapon failed to work and returning the fire, Olsen sent four bullets through Lowry's stomach. Under much secrecy he was removed to the Salt Lake hospital Monday. Lowry was a brother of Mrs. Allen, wife of Dr. S.H. Allen of Salt Lake, and also of Mrs. James C. Reynolds of Salt Lake. Olsen is under arrest at Ferron, but hopes that he will be acquitted on grounds of self-defense, and that Mrs. Lowry will furnish testimony to that effect.

SELF DEFENSE IS VERDICT Coroner's Jury Exonerates Olsen in Shooting of Orson Lowry The following from last Saturday's Emery County Progress gives an account of the shooting between Freddie Olsen and Orson Lowry at Ferron on the night of the 16th, which later resulted in the death of Lowry at a Salt Lake City hospital. "A series of shots ringing out on the evening air, and one man fatally wounded and the other suffering from a shot in the fleshy part of the shoulder, were the sequel to divorce proceedings instituted at the last term of court, when Judge Albert H. Christenson granted an interlocutory decree of divorce to Mrs. Matilda Lowry from Orson H. Lowry of Ferron. The husband was the victim of the fatal shots and Fred Olsen, state road agent for Emery county, who had been keeping company with the Lowry woman for some time, was the wielder of the automatic that fired the six shots, four of which went home, the latter shooting only when Lowry had drawn his gun and fired the one shot that Olsen managed to deflect with his raised arm, when Lowry's gun stopped working and he collapsed with the other's bullets raining upon him. "The shooting occurred near the Bryan place in Ferron shortly after 8 o'clock Sunday evening when Olsen and Mrs. Lowry, accompanied by some of the children of both parties, were met by Lowry while walking along the street. "It is understood that a lack of proper recognition on the part of his children prompted Lowry to sudden fury and the drawing of his gun, though the fact that both had their weapons handy has given color to a great many different stories of what led up to the shooting. "An inquest was held at Ferron Thursday afternoon, when Olsen's account of the affair was corroborated by other parties, and a verdict of death at the hands of Olsen inflicted by the latter in self defense was returned. "Lowry was a son of John Lowry Jr. and Mary Ann Lowry of Manti. He was born there about forty years ago. Seven years ago he removed to Price and after remaining there a short time went to Ferron, where he lived until the night of the fatal shooting. Acquaintances claim that there had been bitter feeling between him and Olsen for some time, Lowry usually worked at sheep herding."

SHOOTING OF ORSON LOWRY A correct statement of the shooting of Orson H. Lowry of Ferron by Fred Olsen of the same place. Some months ago Lowry felt that he had sufficient proof that his wife was secretly living with Olsen. Family trouble ensued, Mr. Lowry leaving home and in February an interlocutory divorce was granted her. Just at dark Sunday evening, March 16th Fred Olsen, walking with Mrs. Lowry and two children, met Mr. Lowry. The children were running ahead. When Lowry came up with his wife and Olsen, she ran and the two men grappled. Simultaneously two shots were fired, Lowry receiving a wound in the breast which disabled him. Olsen emptied his revolver into Lowry's body, then struck him in the face with it. On Monday under the direction of Dr. Fraham of Ferron, Lowry was removed to Salt Lake City, the county attorney Urich Curtis being present at the time of removal. He was taken to the L.D.S. hospital where he died Wednesday morning. The body was brought to Manti for burial and funeral services held Saturday at 2 o'clock at the Tabernacle. The wife and children were not present as stated in some paper.
