Peter Palmer Wangen

The funeral for Peter Wangen, age 88, of Harmony, will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at Elstad Lutheran Church in rural Lanesboro, with Rev. Wade E. Davick officiating. Burial will be in the Elstad Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Mr. Wangen died Thursday, March 24, 2011, at Green Lea Manor in Mabel, where he had resided for 3 1/2 years.

Peter Palmer Wangen was born on Sept. 28, 1922, in rural Lanesboro, to Edward and Bertha (Olson) Wangen. He married Naomi Hermanson March 13, 1948, in the Highland Prairie Parsonage. He had lived in rural Lanesboro and Mabel, and in Harmony for 34 years.

Peter was a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of the Elstad Lutheran Church in rural Lanesboro. He enjoyed Minnesota Twins baseball, watching golf, family gatherings, and in his younger years enjoyed his herd of cows.

Survivors include his wife, Naomi of Harmony; five children, David (Kim) Wangen of Harmony, Darlene (Carroll) Tudahl of Rushford, Julie (Gary) Burkholder of Harmony, Carolyn (Dean) Solberg of Lanesboro and Jason (Kelly) Wangen of St. Charles; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; five siblings, Ella Olstad of La Crosse, Wis., Gladys (Marlin) Zeimer of St. James, Orillie Iverson of Byron, James (Irma) Wangen of Lanesboro, and Merlin (Margie) Wangen of Sparta, Wis.; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Wangen.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jerome; a daughter Jean; a granddaughter, Christa; a great-grandson, Zachery; a great-granddaughter, Taylor; two brothers, Palmer Wangen and Kenneth Wangen; and two sisters, Marian Bothun and Ruth Beatty.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, March 28, at the Johnson-Riley Funeral Home in Lanesboro, and one hour before the service on Tuesday, March 29, at Elstad Lutheran Church in rural Lanesboro.

Johnson-Riley Funeral Home in Lanesboro is handling the arrangements.
