Pardon “Molasses” Tillinghast BIRTH 3 Jun 1718 East Greenwich, Kent County, Rhode Island, USA DEATH 30 Aug 1810 (aged 92) West Greenwich, Kent County, Rhode Island, USA BURIAL Pardon Tillinghast Lot West Greenwich, Kent County, Rhode Island, USA MEMORIAL ID 32586477 · View Source MEMORIAL PHOTOS 2 FLOWERS 6 PLANT TREES Pardon was known as "Molasses pardon", and married in Warwick on 30 November 1740 Hannah Stafford, the daughter of Samuel Stafford and Hannah Bennett. Pardon was close to his grandfather, Pardon-2 Tillinghast, who deeded the subject Pardon a farm when he was three years old. The will of the grandfather later confirmed the deed, and this farm is where the subject lived, being located in the part of East Greenwich that later became West Greenwich.

Pardon held several minor offices in West Greenwich, including Justice of the Peace. He was successful at a number of business enterprises, one of which was making rum, which was made from molasses. This gave him his nickname, used to distinguish him from the many other Pardon Tillinghasts. When he died in 1810, he left a sizable estate, which, excluding real estate, was valued at nearly $28,000. He and Hannah had nine children.
