Biography

Sir Patrick Agnew of Lochnaw, 1st Bt. was born circa 1578. He was the son of Sir Andrew Agnew of Lochnaw and Agnes Stewart. He married Margaret Kennedy, daughter of Sir Thomas Kennedy, Master of Cassillis and Elizabeth Makgill, circa 1598. He died in 1661 at Lochnaw, Wigtownshire, Scotland. He was buried at Old Church, Leswalt, Scotland.

He was invested as a Knight before 1629. He was created 1st Baronet Agnew, of Lochnaw, co. Wigtown [Nova Scotia] on 28 July 1629.

He held the offices:

   8th Hereditary Sheriff of Galloway between 1616 and 1649.
   Sheriff of both Kirkcudbright and Wigtown in the 1650s, while Scotland was part of the Protectorate with England..
   Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Wigtownshire [Scotland] between 1628 and 1633.
   Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Wigtownshire [Scotland] in 1643, 1644, 1645 and 1647 

When he died in 1661, he was succeeded by his eldest son, Andrew, who would also be returned as MP for Wigtownshire.
