Biographical Summary

"Sir Andrew Agnew, Baronet [S 1629] of Lochnaw, 9th Hereditary Sheriff of Galloway, son and heir, succeeded to the Baronetcy in 1661, and was served heir to his father, 29 October 1661. He had been previously Knighted; was five times M.P. [S] for Wigtownshire, 1644, 1648-49, 1665, 1667, and 1669-72; was one of the Commissioners for Scotland, during the interregnum after the execution of Charles I. In 1636 he was appointed Sheriff of all Galloway, which included Kircudbrightshire. In 1661 he was restored to his ancient Hereditary Shrievalty. He married (contract 22 March 1625) Anne, daughter of Alexander Stewart, 1st Earl of Galloway [S], by Grisel, daughter of Sir John Gordon, of Lochinvar. He died 1671."

Sir Andrew Agnew, 2nd Baronet (died 1671) was the son of Sir Patrick Agnew, 1st Baronet and Margaret Kennedy.

Succession
He succeeded his father as 2nd Baronet Agnew, of Lochnaw on the latter's death in 1661. On his death in 1671 he was succeeded in the baronetcy by his eldest son.

Career He was Member of Parliament for Wigtownshire, in 1644, 1647, 1665, 1667 and 1669. He was Sheriff of Wigtownshire and Kirkudbrightshire during the Interregnum in 1656. He was later fined £6000 for his support of Oliver Cromwell.

Family He married Lady Anne Stewart, daughter of Alexander Stewart, 1st Earl of Galloway and Grizel Gordon (1625), and had issue:
