Paul T. Paulson

Another Pioneer Gone Paul T. Paulson, One of Emmet County's First Settlers Passes Away Paul T. Paulson, son of Tollef and Guro Paulson was born in Norway, Feb. 3, 1851. At the age of ten he immigrated with his parents to the United States, locating in Clayton county, Iowa, after a stay of two years in that place the family moved to Emmet county, in 1863, and in this locality Paul Paulson grew to manhood and has resided ever since. He was among the first few settlers who made their homes here while the region was almost a wilderness. He was thus forced to share the hard lot of the early pioneers. He had been enjoying comparatively good health until Tuesday September 1. In the afternoon of that day he and his brother were at work repairing a piece of machinery when Paul suddenly lost strength and settled over, a corpse, in his brother's arms.

In addition to more distant relatives and a host of friends he leaves to mourn his loss one brother, Ole Paulson, and three sisters, Mrs. Ole Peterson, Mrs. Lewis Jacobson and Miss Annie Paulson, also Thelma Prankie and Thor Berg who have made their home with him.

Funeral services were held from the home Friday, Sept. 4, Rev. M. J. Akre performing the last sad rites over the remains of the deceased. Interment was made in the cemetery at Wallingford.

In the death of Paul Paulson Emmet county loses one of her oldest sons, a man of sterling character and a progressive citizen and in company with the bereaved brothers and sisters we mourn his loss.

Pioneer Settler Drops Dead Came Here With Parents in Early Sixties and Has Resided Here Since. P. Paulson Suddenly Stricken Funeral Services Held Sunday and Remains Laid to Rest in Wallingford Cemetery One of Emmet counties oldest settlers passed away last Thursday at his home north of Wallingford without uttering a word to his remaining brother who caught him in his arms.

Paul Paulson and his brother Ole Paulson and a sister have lived on their farm near Wallingford for many years. On the day of his death he had eaten dinner and seemed in his usual health. After the mean the two brothers went out in the yard to repair some machinery. They had commenced the work when without warning or the utterance of a single word Paul fell backwards into his brothers arms.

Paul Peterson was a son of Tollif Paulson one of the oldest settlers of the county. He was born in Hole Hallingdal, Norway, on February 3, 1855 [per gravestone 1851], and came to this country when a mere youth. The family resided in Benton county for two years and moved to Emmet county where they have resided since that time. The deceased leaves a brother and three sisters to mourn his death. The funeral services were held Sunday, the Rev. J. J. Akre officiating and the remains were laid to rest in the Wallingford cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, September 9, 1914)
