The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Corporal Paul H. Weinert, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 29 December 1890, while serving with Battery E, 1st U.S. Artillery, in action at Wounded Knee Creek, South Dakota. Taking the place of his commanding of officer who had fallen severely wounded, Corporal Weinert gallantly served his piece, after each fire advancing it to a better position.
