She was born in Seville, daughter of the Castilian nobles Pedro Núñez de Guzmán (descendant of the noble family of Saint Dominic) and Juana Ponce de León (great-granddaughter of King Alfonso IX of León)
Narrator A: Juan Ponce de Leon was born into nobility, but his family fell on hard times. As a boy, he became a servant to Pedro Nunez de Guzman, a Spanish knight. Later, Ponce de Leon fought to drive the Moors [Spanish Muslims] out of Spain. Then, in 1492, exciting news took Spain by storm.
