  • [S1379] William Bogardus, "E-mail correspondence from William Bogardus," e-mail message from Bogardus, William to Chris Chester and et al, Received May 19, 2008. "I've been reviewing some past correspondence regarding a possible spouse and descendancy from Petrus Brouwer, bp. New York Dutch Church, 12 Oct 1740, son of Pieter Brouwer and his 1st wife, Elizabeth Quackenbush; and Pieter, son of Jacobus Brouwer and Anna Bogardus. In my 1996 "Dear Cousin" Book on Chart 7D, I had indicated "no further record" for Petrus. A correspondent of mine, who had apparently been in contact with Lilly in late 2005 or early 2006 (Sharon Craig) had indicated that Petrus (Peter) had died in Tate Twp., Clermont Co., OH in 1842 and that he (as Peter Brewer) had married Margaret Melow 23 Mar 1780, in Gloucester Co., NJ. She was apparently born in 1761 in Somerset Co., NY and died in 1838 in Tate Twp. also. Clermont County, OH is not far from Wilmington so I will try to investigate this myself when time permits.
  • I'm aware of Lilly's "rootsweb" inquiry of 15 Apr 2005, pertaining to the NJ tax records of 1790-1815 wherein Peter was apparently included; and a later 10 Mar 2006 "rootsweb" excellent report by Lilly pertaining to the "Brower Families in Missouri" wherein the ancestry of Peter, with his wife Margaret Melow, is tentatively concluded as being a descendant of Jacobus Brouwer as indicated above.
  • My present questions are: do you both now accept that it was Petrus (Peter), bp. 12 Oct 1740, the son of Jacobus Brouwer and Anna Bogardus, who married Margaret Melow; and do you agree that Peter and Margaret had: (1) Peter, b. 7 Apr 1788, Egg Harbor, Gloucester Co., NJ, d. 11 May 1869, Dabney, Ripley Co., IN, who married Anna Perrine, 1 Jun 1817 in Clermont Co., OH. She was apparently born 3 Dec 1787 in Cranbury, Middlesex Co., NJ and died 18 Sep 1872 in Ripley Co., IN; and (2) Adam, b. 13 Apr 1802, Gloucester Co., NJ, d. 14 Nov 1892, Hamilton Co., IN, who married Janet MacMurchy, 12 Oct 1824 in Brown Co., OH - - and I have more information about her. In the 1850 census for Otter Creek Township, Ripley Co., IN, I believe I found Peter (as Peter Brown), age 62, b. NJ, living with his son Andrew and family; and in the 1860 census for the same place, as Peter Brown, age 72, b. NJ, living with his son James D. and family; and in the 1870 census for Center Township, I found Anna Browers, age 83, b. NJ, living with Andrew and his family. Another child of Peter and Margaret was Margaret Melow Brower, b. 1818, Clermont Co., OH, d. 1888, married Edward Thomas Newberry - - with more information also; and I have children and descendants of Adam Brower and Janet MacMurchy
