Peter Cook(e), b. abt. 1674, Tarvin, Cheshire, Eng. Peter died between April & June 1713, at sea enroute to America. Peter was from a Quaker family and was married at Newton MH, Cheshire, Dec. 7, 1695, to Elinor Norman of Kingsley, Cheshire, dau. of John & Mary (Worrall) Norman. Peter was given funds collected from four local meetings so he, his wife and family of seven children, (the oldest 17 years, the youngest 15 months) could make the voyage. After their arrival in Philadelphia, Elinor remarried in Sept. 1714 to John Fincher of Chester Co., Pa. (source: http://boards.ancestry.com/localities.britisles.england.chs.general... )
According to wayne hadley, in his manuscript, "the peter cook family", which was sent to "the quaker yeoman" for publication, "peter cook was born @@1674 & lived in tarvin, cheshire, england. he married elinor norman of kingsley, cheshire [prob. spinster], eng. @@newton in cheshire, 10-7-1695 [OS]." the actual mar. rec says, "10 mo. (called dec). peter cook applied for a cert of removal for himself and his family at frandley monthly meeting, jan. 3, 1713." A cert. of removal was a letter of recommendation from the old meeting to the new, which testified that the affairs (i.e. debts, good standing with the friends, etc.) were all in order for the individual named. it gave the quaker permission to move.
The burial records of Philadelphia mm contain an entry for may 25, 1713 for Samuel Cook, son of ___ cook who died at sea, and Elinor his wife. evidently Peter Cook died at sea & his infant son, Samuel, died soon after the family's arrival & Philadelphia." Since the date of the cert of removal was Jan 3, 1713 & Samuel's burial record was dated may 25, 1713 then Peter died somewhere in between Jan 3 and May 25, 1713.
Blacksmith in England prior to immigration to America died at sea prior to arrival in America (Ancestors & Family of J. Alvin Hardin by Massey & Hardin).
