About Peter Florian Gruber
Funeral services for Peter Gruber were held at Barkley Funeral Home Wednesday afternonn at 2 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. W. K. Moore, of LaGrange. Interement was in Forest Grove cemetery. The pall bearers were Orange and Melvin Gruber, Oscar and Fred Reiter, John Gilbert and Cecil Mason. Music was furnished by a quartette, Mrs. Lee Schlager, Mrs. Joe Alderton, Earl Barkley and Art Goetz. Mr. Gruber had been in failing health since he fell and fractured his hip in December. For several days his condition had been critical. His death occurred Monday at 3 a. m. Mr. Gruber was the son of Christian and Catherine Gruber, and lived out his 78 years in Lewis county, following the occupation of farming. Mr. Gruber and Margaret Elizabeth Reiter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Reiter, were married in the Reiter home near Centenary December 20, 1887, by the Rev. William Schoening pastor of the Canton German Methoidst church. They set up a farm home and continued to farm during the subsequent years. Mr. and Mrs. Gruber's three sons, Tom, Walter, and George, all live in this community. There are six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Other relatives surviving are: his widow; a sister, Mrs. Mary Duncan, of Ault, Colo., and two brothers, Jim Gruber, of Medical Lake, Wash., and Andy Gruber, of Canton. Mr. and Mrs. Gruber, relatives and friends observed their golden wedding anniversary in December. Three of the guests who attended the wedding fifty years ago were present, Mr. and Mrs. George Reiter and Andy Gruber.
