Funeral Obituary

Peter Samuel Vogt, the youngest son of Jacob and Magdalena (Showalter) Vogt, was born April 16, 1877, on a farm near Moundridge, Kansas. He answered the call to his heavenly home on September 12, 1954, at 11:20 P. M. from the Bethel Deaconess Hospital having been confirned there for the past 6 weeks. He attained the age of 77 years, 4 months, and 26 days.

It was on the same farm that he was born that he had the privilage of spending 68 years of his life. As a young man he received his Schooling in District 51, and attended Bethel College in the winter of 1894-95.

On September 18, 1892, he was baptized upon his confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior, by Rev. William Galle, and received into the membership of the Garden Township Mennonite Church, here he remained a faithfull member.

On January 23, 1901, he was joined in holy matrimony to Emma Auernheimer, in the home of the Bride's parents near Summerfield, Illinois. He brought his bride back to Kansas to the farm of his boyhood and there they began wedded life together. After 53 years if wedded life, the Heavenly Father called him to higher service. He is proceeded in death by one son-in-law, Mr. Clyde Robinson.

Father was a faithful and regular attendant at the House of God. He always interested in the welfare and the growth of the Church. It was his privilege to serve as Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, and Deacon of the Church.

In July 1954, he left the farm and moved to Mounridge, where he spent the remainder of his life. During the past 3 years of ill heath, he was unable to attend the services in the Church, often expressing his desire to attend church services. An interesting note in his diary reveals that during this time, he read the entire New Testament, with the exception of Revelation, also Psalms, Esther and Ruth in the Old Testament. He enjoyed very much the Radio Church services and found real joy in the message. Father loved his Lord and was ready to answer the call when it came.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife; 4 daughter; Esther, Mrs. John Neufeld; Moundridge, Luella, Mrs, Edwin Harms, Burns; Ruth, of the home; Vera Robinson, Wichita; and one son, Robert, Moundridge; 1 Daughter-in-law; 2 son-in-laws; 9 Grandchildren; 9 Great Grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Mary Baumgartner, Portland, Orgon, the only member left of the Jacob Vogt family; many friends and relatives.
