About Philip Friederich Antes
Philip Frederick Antes was born on September 1, 1675, in Freinsheim on the Rhine River, in the Rhenish Palatinate, Germany, and baptized at the Reformed Church at Freinsheim, Germany. He emigrated to Philadelphia County in 1720, with his wife, Anna Catherine Kinder Antes, and family. His son, Henry, was about nineteen years old at the time. Philip was naturalized at Philadelphia on September 12, 1742. He bought 154 acres in February 1727, in Germantown, where he settled. Philip died on November 28, 1746, in Germantown, Frederick Twp., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Philip Frederick's father was originally Baron Von Blume, an abbot of a monastery who, somehow, converted to Protestantism, married an abbess, similarly converted, and together they fled from Germany to the tolerance of Pennsylvania, where they started a new life, taking the name of Anthos (a translation of the word "Blume" into the Greek word for flower), later simplified to Antes.
