Philip Darnall

  • Born about 1671 in Maryland
  • Son of Henry Darnall I and [mother unknown]
  • Brother of Mary (Darnall) Carroll [half], Ann (Darnall) Hill [half], Henry Darnall II [half] and Elizabeth (Darnall) Digges [half]
  • Husband of Eleanor (Brooke) Digges — married about 1696 [location unknown]
  • Father of Philip Darnall and Henry Darnall
  • Died about 1705 at about age 34 in Prince George's County, Marylandmap

Philip Darnall was born about 1671 in Maryland (now United States). His father was Col. Henry Darnall.

His mother is not known. His father Henry Darnall married Eleanor Hatton, widow of Thomas Brooke, in 1679 in Baltimore, Maryland. There is no known record of a prior marriage for his father. However Eleanor Hatton cannot be Philip's mother since:

  • Philip was born before her marriage to Henry, while she was married to and having children with her first husband Thomas Brooke;
  • Philip's marriage to Eleanor Brooke, daughter of Eleanor Hatton and Thomas Brooke, would not have been allowed if they had the same mother and were therefore half-siblings.

Philip Darnall married Eleanor Brooke, daughter of Col Thomas Brooke, of Brookfield, Prince George County, Maryland, and Eleanor Hatton.

His son from his first marriage, Philip Darnall, received part of the plantation "Portland Manor" wher e the dwelling house stood. He also named Philip, Henry, and Eleanor, the children of his so n Philip.

There is debate about whether Eleanor Brooke was his wife, separate from an Eleanor Hatton, his mother or if the two are the same person. Records on Eleanor's birth and marriage seem to suggest they are two different people.
