Grand Isle---Philip Deschaine, Sr., 82, passed away on June 9, 2011 at a Van Buren health care facility. He was born in St. David on August 23, 1928 the son of Alcime and Anna (Chasse) Deschaine. Philip worked at Fraser Papers for thirty nine years until his retirement in 1991. He was the assistant fire chief for the Grand Isle Fire Department. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed spending time at his maple sugar camp, and he always made sure his grandchildren got a taste of his maple sugar. He was a great cook and was well known for his rabbit parmesan. He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Daigle and her husband Daniel of Madawaska; two sons, Philip Deschaine Jr. and his wife Joyce, and Rodney “Bear” Deschaine all of St. David; six grandchildren, Kevin, Kylie, Julie, Cheryl, Jessica, and Macie; three great grandchildren, Kristin, Alayna, Ciara; one sister, Louise Robichaud of Washington State; four half sisters, Constance Rancourt of Connecticut, Vie Therrien and her husband Paul Emile of Lille, Blanche Jalbert of St. David, Joan Nadeau and her husband Alphy of Connecticut; three half brothers, Ronnie, Rino, and Gedeon Deschaine all of St. David; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife Priscille Cyr Deschaine in May of 2006. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Reginald, Roland, Richard, Delina, Ida, Edith, and Irene. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10am on Tuesday, June 14 at the St. Gerard Church in Grand Isle. Family and friends may call at Lajoie Funeral Home from 6-8pm on Monday and from 8:30am until time of service on Tuesday. Interment will be held immediately after the service at the Parish cemetery.
