Philip Lazar was married in a Jewish ceremony about 1845 to his 2nd cousin, Betty Bass (1817-1902), daughter of Jakob and Ester Bass. However, they were never married in a legally recognized civil ceremony and each one of their five children were deemed illegitimate.
Following Philip's death in 1871, Betty went by the surname Lazar. She was "Betty Lazar" when she died in Prostejov in 1902, age 85.
