Philip W. Spargur was born about 1786 in North Carolina, a son of John and Christiana (Frey) Wolfenspargur. Apparently later generations shortened the name simply to Spargur, but used W. (for Wolfen) as a middle name. Philip married by bond dated 14 Aug 1807 in Surry County, NC, Rachel Sumner. By 1820 they were in Highland County, Ohio where they remained the rest of their lives. Philip and Rachel were the parents of ten children.
