Notes for PHILIP WASHBURN
History of the Early Settlement of Bridgewater in Plymouth County ... By Nahum Mitchell. Page 339. WASHBURN.
3. Philip (s. of John 1). We cannot find that he left either wife or children; his father gave him a farm in Duxbury 1666, when he sold to Samuel Seabury 1679, and he sold other lands to Thomas Lazell in 1684; his brother John, in his will, directs his s. John to take care of "his uncle Philip," implying an incapacity in him either of mind or body to take care of himself; probably the latter, as he had been in possession and manager of a farm.—Joseph Washburn "gave a bond to take care of his uncle Philip 1685," who was living 1700.
Three Hundred Colonial Ancestors "According to this source Philip, b. in Evesham, England about 1624; d. unm. Genealogical Register of Plymouth Families: "Philip, Bridgewater, is thought to have had no children"
The Plymouth Colony book:
"The fact is, though, that Philip married late in life Elizabeth Irish, daughter of John and Elizabeth Irish,----" They had children
[In 1685, I get the impression that he was incapable of caring for himself.]

The tests do not, by themselves, prove that John of Bengeworth b. 1479, was born to John of Wichenford and Joan Mytton. It is "possible" to have been from a generation or two back, but thanks to the yDNA evidence, we can say, without a doubt, that the John's of Bengeworth and thus, the John's of Plymouth Colony, were descended from the Norman Knights Washbourne in this male line.
Haplo Group I-M253 Washbourne yDNA Project Biography
From John Maltby: Philip Washburn, youngest son of John Washburn born in Bengeworth, Worcestershire, England, ca. 1624, sailed to New England with his brother and mother in 1635 aboard the “Elizabeth and Ann” and he married Elizabeth Irish, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Risely?) Irish, of Duxbury, Plymouth Colony, in, say 1663, and they probably also settled eventually in Bridgewater, MA, with his father and brother.
Phillip Washburn never became a freeman like his father and brother, and by 8 May 1685 he was found incapable of taking care of himself, at which time his nephew, Joseph Washburn, agreed to take care of him. He was still living on 19 Aug. 1700, but probably died soon after, presumably in Bridgewater. No probate records were found for him in Plymouth County.
