A portrait of Pips Schey may be found in "A Time of Gifts" by Patrick Leigh Fermor (recently issued by NY Review Books). Fermor was 19 years old in 1933 when he decided to hike through Europe from Holland to Constantinople. In Hungary, almost by accident, he met Pips Schey, stayed with him at his estate in Kövecses and was charmed by him, as was everyone who knew him (including my mother).
