About Phillip Randall

Born by about 1590, based on estimated date of marriage. A smith who came to Massachusetts Bay in 1633. First settled in Dorchester; moved to Windsor in 1636. Died in Windsor, 6 May 1662.

Married by about 1615 _____ _____; "old widow Randall" died at Windsor 24 August 1665, aged 87 (undoubtedly an exaggeration). (A "Phillippe Randole" married 10 April 1608 at Allington, Dorset, Joan Fush; this seems too early for the immigrant.)

Source: Anderson's Great Migration Study Project.

Philip Randall came to Dorchester in 1633, possibly arriving in an unnamed ship on 24 July. In August of 1633 he received a grant of 4 acres in Dorchester. In 1635 or 1636 he removed with others of Dorchester to settle Windsor where his home lot was located north of the Palisado along the Great River, next to that of Thomas Holcomb.

Philip and his wife had three children, all undoubtedly born in England. His son Abraham would marry twice but left no issue. Abraham left his estate to nephews, the children of his sister then deceased sister Phillury. Another son, Philip, died in 1648, probably unmarried.

In March of 1661/62, in his will, Philip called himself "aged and full of daies" indicating advanced age. He died in 1662 and "old widow Randall" died in 1665 at age 87 (b.c. 1578). 3 His wife's name is not recorded, however there is a marriage recorded as "Phillippe Randole" married 10 April 1608 at Allington, Dorset, Joan Fush. Charles Robert Anderson in "The Great Migration Begins" says that this seems too early for the immigrant. However, if the age of his widow is a true indication, I believe it is feasible that this marriage could belong to the immigrant, Philip Randall. Without further research, the identity of Philip's wife as Joan Fush must remain suspect.
