Poul Ernst Ellehammer

Poul wanted to be a sailor, and started his career as cabin boy. While in harbour in Rudkøbing, Poul and a decksmate climbed up the rigging. Poul fell, and lacerated his arm seriously. The doctors wanted to amputate, but on hearing of this his cousin Severin Jacobsen, who was doctor in Nysted, intervened and persuadad the doctors to implant a silver spoon. The operation went well and the Poul kept his arm. However this ruled out any hope of becoming sailor, so Poul moved to Helsinge, Sjælland where he established a trucking firm and a bakery.
