About Priscilla Smith Malin
Priscilla Smith Taylor Malin was the daughter of George and Priscilla (Smith) Taylor. They were married about 3 or 4 years after the death of his first wife in 1903. Priscilla Smith Taylor's mother died when she was only two months old in 1907, and in 1910 Priscilla was living with her mother's sister, Elizabeth, and her family. Priscilla's father George remarried, but his third wife also died after giving birth to a baby boy who did not survive in 1910. In 1911, George married for a 4th time, to Ida, and Ida outlived George. Sadly, Priscilla's aunt Elizabeth died in 1921 when she was only about 54 years old.
Even more tragic, was the fact that Priscilla's father George died in 1924, when she was only 16 years old. After George's death, Priscilla and her half-sister Miriam Mae Taylor, were still living with their step-mother, Ida, but they had moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, by 1930. They were listed as follows in the census record that year: Ida A., 57, Miriam M., 29, and Priscilla S., 22. Ida was not working, but Marian was working as a nurse at a hospital and Priscilla was working as a public school teacher. Four years later when Priscilla was 26 years old she married Wayne Paskett Malin in Salt Lake City, Utah, on June 9, 1934.
In 1931 before Wayne married Priscilla, he was living at 951 Windsor in Salt Lake city, and was working as an attendant for Bennett-Culmer Company. In the 1930 census, when he was still living with his parents at the age of 21, he was working as a service station attendant. In a 1933 U.S. City Directory listing, Wayne was living at 976 8th Street East, and was working as a buyer for the American Fur Company. A 1936 U.S. City Directory listing for Salt Lake City, showed that Wayne and Priscilla were living at 153 2nd Ave., Apt. 7, and Wayne was still working working as a buyer. In 1939 Wayne and Priscilla were living at 503 H Street, and Wayne was working for the Inter Mountain Fur & Wool Company.
In the 1940 census for Salt Lake City, Utah, Priscilla, Wayne, both 33 years old, and their 3 year old son, Douglas Taylor Malin, were still living at 503 H Street in a home they owned valued at $10,500 and Wayne was working as a wholesale fur broker. In the 52 weeks he worked in 1939 at 48 hours per week, his income was $3,600. In 1941 and 1942, they were living at the same address and Wayne was still working for the Inter-mountain Fur & Wool Company.
Wayne Malin died in May of 1978, and his last residence at the time was in Gallup, McKinley County, New Mexico. Priscilla survived him until she passed away 6 years later also in Gallup, New Mexico. Their son, Douglas Taylor Malin, born June 16, 1939, in Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away May 29, 2005, and was buried in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Following is an obituary for him which was found on Find A Grave.com:
