He enlisted 6-1-1861 in the 10th Va Inf as a Pvt Co A at Harper's Ferry (Frequently absent during term of enlistment). According to "11th Va Cavalry (Armstrong)" he had prior service as a Pvt Co. E ,10th VA Cavalry), then enlisted in the 11th (Hess' Cavalry) at Swift Run Gap 4-21-1862. He was killed in action at the Battle of Jack's Shop, now present Rochelle, Madison County, Virginia. He was not buried Rochelle. Most likely, his family recovered his body and buried him in the Lee Cemetery at Wheatfield. A memorial stone was made for him and placed it close to his mother and father. Note that the Bedford County Roster, CSA, has him listed as Samuel K Lee Pvt. Co. K 26th Va. Inf, KIA.
