About Prof. Dr. Indalêncio Pascoal Froilano de Melo
Born in 1887 he was orphaned at the age of 12 but worked hard and was appointed a professor at the Escola Medico-Cirurgica de Goa in 1910, at the age of 23.
He worked hard for the eradication of malaria and other pendemic diseses in Goa.
Froilano, towards the later part of his life struggled for an independent 'Goa, Damao e Diu' , within the framework of a Commonwealth with Portugal; an idea akin to the status of the British Commonwealth
He fell out of grace with the Portuguese Governmenment, the disappointed but unbroken Dr. Froilano emigrated in 1951 to Brazil where three of his children lived. He died in Brazil in 1955
