OBITUARY. MR EDWIN METHERELL. The death occurred at the Tauranga Hospital last night of Mr Edwin Metherell at the age of eighty-three years. The late Mr Metherell was born in Jersey Island and served his time as-an engineer with the Railways in London. Sixty-two years ago he came to New Zealand, making the voyage in the ship Elsie Owen, landing at Napier. With his brother he started a flour mill at Hastings, and for some years did considerable grinding of wheat for the Maoris of that district. He secured second prize for a flour exhibit in an important exhibition in Melbourne against world competitors about half-a-century ago. Messrs Metherell Bros, also ran a wheat threshing plant. Later Mr Metherell joined the engineering staff of Messrs Jones Bros., of Hastings. He then moved to Dannevirke and afterwards to Palmerston North and was engaged in the saw-milling industry for many years with Messrs Gamman and Simmonds. Twenty four years ago he moved to Tauranga district and was in charge of the engineering work associated with the sawmilling enterprises at Omanawa Falls, Tauriko, and Pongakawa. About fourteen years ago he moved to Mount Maunganul. He enjoyed, good health until early in this year, and five weeks ago had to enter the Tauranga Hospital. Mr Metherell is survived by Mrs Metherell and a family of two sons and four daughters, viz., Messrs Frank Metherell (Te Aroha), Harold Metherell (North Auckland), Mesdames C. Robson (Palmerston North), W. Glassin (California), H. Barker (Mount Maunganui), J. Peers (Omanawa). Two sons,-Messrs John and Edwin Metherell died as the result of war service after their return to New Zealand. The funeral will leave the hospital at 2.30 p.m. to-morrow.
