About Pte. John Edward Watson

John Edward Watson was the eldest son of John Edward Watson and Evangeline Annie Watson (nee Dam) and husband of Georgina Catrina Watson (nee Elmbranch) of 103 Franklin Road, Auckland. He died at the No. 14 Stationary Hospital in France during the 1918 Influenza Pandemic whilst serving during World War I. John was buried in the Terlincthun British Cemetery.

  • Found guilty, 6 November 1917, neglect of duty: severely reprimanded.
  • Embarked Wellington, 31 December 1917; disembarked Glasgow, Scotland, 25 February 1918.
  • Marched into Wellington Company, Composite Reserve Bn, Larkhill; reverted to Temporary Corporal.
  • Confirmed in rank of Corporal, 30 March 1918.
  • Marched in to 3rd Reserve Bn, Wellington Infantry Regiment, Sling Camp, 6 April 1918.
  • Marched out from Sling Camp and proceeded overseas to France, 6 April 1918; marched in to NZ Base Depot, Etaples, 28 May 1918.
  • Joined 1st Bn, Wellington Infantry Regiment, in the field, 31 August 1918.
  • Reverted to the ranks at own request, 5 September 1918.
  • Wounded in action, 13 September 1918; admitted to No 1 NZ Field Ambulance and transferred to No 56 Casualty Clearing Station, 14 September 1918.
  • Admitted to No 2 Australian General Hospital, 15 September 1918.
  • Admitted to No 12 Convalescent Depot, 18 October 1918.
  • Admitted No 14 Stationary Hospital, 30 October 1918 (influenza).
  • Placed on 'Seriously Ill' List, 31 October 1918.
  • Placed on 'Dangerously Ill' List, 3 November 1918.
  • Died, 5 November 1918.
