"SCHUYLER LAKE On Saturday, August 3rd, at 9:45 a. m., E. S. T., there will be dedicated what is known as the 'Old Herkimer Cemetery,' one half mile north of Schuyler Lake on Route 28 ... There are many graves in this cemetery, the first body placed there was that of Hendrick Herkimer, a brother of General Nicholas Herkimer of Oriskany fame. Family history tells us he, too, was wounded on the Oriskany battlefield. George and Abraham were Hendrick's sons; both served in the Revolution.

George was General Herkimer's Aide at Oriskany; also his escort at the council of Brandt at Unadilla. He was escort to General Washington on his tour of the Mohawk Valley. His name as well as Hendrick's are on the Oriskany monument. Abraham was with General Herkimer at the council of Brandt at Unadilla. He was the first white man to warm Fort Herkimer of the Cherry Valley massacre ..."[4]
