1834. CHARLES ROBERT LYON(S). Charles Robert Lyon was born on 26 June 1834 at Sandersville in Washington County, Georgia. He was the son of Jonathan Lyon (1790-bet. 1852 to 1860) and Mary Moye. He was a farmer and in later years worked as a night watchman in Tampa, Florida. Researched by PMLyons

1859 MARRIAGE. Charles was married to Sarah Mary Martin on 2 January 1859 in Washington County, GA. Sarah was the daughter of Green N. Martin (1799-1860) and Lucy Irena Thaxton. Researched by PMLyons

1859 PIERCE CO, GA. In 1859, Charles and Sarah moved to Ware County in the area that became Pierce County. There first two children were born at Blackshear. Sarah's father moved his family to Ware county. Green Martin died in Ware County in 1860. Charles Lyon was the executor of his will. Sarah's mother had already died. Researched by PMLyons

CIVIL WAR IN 1861. At the outbreak of the War Between the States, Lyon enlisted as a Private in the Army of the Confederate States at Waresboro, GA. on 18 April 1861. He was enrolled by Captain Cary W. Styles in Old Company M, Wire Grass Minute Men, 13 Regiment GA. Inf. He mustered in at Tybee Island in Georgia on 26 May 1861. He was promoted to 2nd. Sergeant in 1861. Later that year his company was the New Company L of the 13th Regiment aka 26th Regiment. Researched by PMLyons

BACK HOME. In 1862, at the end of his 12 month tour of duty, Lyon returned home. While home, he sold land totaling 1,715 acres located in the 8th district of Georgia. (originally Appling County). Researched by PMLyons

CIVIL WAR. in 1863, Lyon enrolled in Pierce Mounted Volunteers at Blackshear for a period of 6 months. The Volunteers were attached to the 26th GA. Infantry. The Regiment was assigned to part of the coast of Georgia; then sent to Richmond, VA. Seven Days Battles; then served with the Army of Northern Virginia. Researched by PMLyons

WAR INJURIES. His first injury was while he was mounting a canon at Brunswick, GA in 1861. On the 3rd day of Battle at SEVEN PINES in Virginia, he was wounded in the right knee. At the Battle of GETTYSBURG, PA., he was wounded in the left hip. At the Battle of FAIRFAX COURTHOUSE, Virginia, he was wounded in the right leg. He was discharged on 10 April 1865 at Richmond, Virginia. He was ranked as a Sergeant in Company E 26th Regiment Georgia Infantry. Researched by PMLyons

C1865 TO FLORIDA. Charles and Sarah moved to the Fort Dade area of Florida. They settled in Sumter county between 1870-1873. SARAH DIED between 1885-1900. Charles purchased land in Hillsborough county (1884). In 1894, he sold land he owned at Riverland in Hernando county. Researched by PMLyons

1903 APPLIED FOR CSA PENSION. Charles was denied a pension because he could not prove that he was not absent without leave from 1862 until the end of the war. NOTE: the records found today in his file prove that he continued to serve in the CSA and not AWOL. Researched by PMLyons

1909 HARVEST OF DEATH. LYONS- Funeral of Charles Lyons, the Confederate veteran who died at his home in West Tampa on 13 January 1909 at the age of 74 years (ARTICLE HAS AGE 87) took place at his home with Rev. F. P. Ensminger officiating. Interment took place at Woodlawn cemetery under direction of J. L. Reed. Tampa Tribune issue Friday 15 January 1909, page 9 Col. 1. NOTE: THERE IS NO TOMBSTONE AT WOODLAWN FOR CHARLES ROBERT LYONS. HOWEVER, THERE IS AN UNKNOWN BURIAL IN THE CONFEDERATE SECTION OF THE CEMETERY.
