Civil War Veteran-

Charles Henry Mills, Pvt Company A "Washington Guards" of Fredericksburg, 30th VA Infantry, Corse's Brigade, Pickett's Division, 1st Corps, Army of Northern VA, CSA.

Residence Mills VA.; saddlery apprentice in Fredericksburg, Va.
Enlisted on 2/24/1862 as a Private, he mustered into "A" Co. VA 30th Infantry.
Absent 1/1/1864.
Hospitalized 1/26/1865 Chimborazo Hospital, Richmond, VA. with chronic dysentery.

The 30th Infantry Regiment completed its organization at Fredericksburg, Virginia, in June, 1861. Men of this unit were from Fredericksburg and the counties of Spotsylvania, Caroline, Stafford, and King George.

On 9/2/1902 as a 59 year-old still living in Fredericksburg, he applied for a full Confederate Disability Pension as "I consider myself totally disabled; am suffering pain in both hands all the time" due to rheumatism. He was approved 12/4/1902.

Burial in Confederate Cemetery, Fredericksburg, VA.

Charles Henry Mills (1843-1916) had 2 marriages:

1st to Amanda B Proctor (1849-1890) Married 1869.

Married 2nd to Mary Etta Rowlett, postwar he returned to Fredericksburg, living first on Sophia Street above Dixon, later at 220 Charles Street; harness maker at Fredericksburg Buggy Co.

Obituary:

MR. CHAS. M. MILLS DEAD -  He Was a Confederate Veteran.

Mr. Charles H. Mills died at his home here Sunday morning, aged 76 years.

He was a Confederate soldier, having served in Co. A, 30th Va. Regt. during the Civil War.

Mr. Mills is survived by his 2nd wife and ten children: Four daughters: Mrs. Geo. W. Heflin, Mrs. Allen Berry, Mrs. George R. Brooks, of this city; and Mrs. Fred Cooper, of Washington, children of his first wife, and by the following children of his second wife: Mrs. Wilbur Shepherd, Mrs. Betrant Brown, Edward, Joseph, Nellie and Mattie Mills, all of this city.
