About Pvt. Daniel Kibbe, Continental Army
Daniel was born near Somers Ct. September 20, 1720. He was the 7th child of the 8 children of James and Hannah (Kelsey) Kibbe. He was married in Somers, to Mary, also from Somers, on October 29, 1741/2. The new couple made their home in Somers and raised all of their children there. Daniel had a saw and grist mill on a branch of the Scantic River. When the American Revolutionary War broke out in 1776, Daniel enlisted as a Private. His son Amariah was commisioned as a Captain, his son Lemuel enlisted as a Private, and some of their sons, and cousins also served. When Daniel returned from the war, he continued his work at the mill. Daniel became a respected and substantial citizen in his community. He died Dec. 15, 1810 in Somers Connecticut at age 90.
