Pvt. Elkanah Lanier was executed for desertion, along with his brother, Jacob. It tells of the tragedy of two brothers who were unjustly tried and convicted. Elkanah is also the brother of Pvt. Joseph Lanier and Pvt. William Lanier, Civil War dead, and Pvt David Lanier, wounded twice in separate battles.
