About Pvt. Francis Lambert, USA

If he was born in NY, it would have been (probably) Williamsburgh, Kings Co.

Pvt. Co. D, 83rd NY Infantry (aka 9th Reg. NY, 83rd Volunteers), headed at first by a future relative by marriage: Col. Michael M. van Beuren

Antietam Dead for the 9th NY, 83rd NY infantry reg't

"The Ninth lost 23 killed and died of wounds, 88 wounded, and 3 missing'" ~• from THE HISTORY OF THE NINTH REGIMENT N.Y.S.M. (EIGHTY-THIRD N.Y. VOLUNTEERS) George A, Hussey (historian) , William Todd editor (1889), page 197; pub. by the Veterans of the Regiment; see also pg. 433

~• parenthetically, this number of dead, wounded and missing at Antietam is too low. A close reading of the text reveals many more. The text is even incorrect in stating that Francis Lambert died on the field as he lingered for over a month

Francis is known to me as a 4th great uncle. His Company D was originally commanded by another van Beuren relative of mine, Capt. John W. Davis who was married to my 3rd great aunt Mary Louise Davis. The web of family ties continues: Francis' sister Elizabeth Lambert had a daughter Elizabeth Ann Potter. Elizabeth Potter married Frederick T. van Beuren, my 2nd great grandfather.
( Frederic Theodore van Beuren, (USA) )

It seems that the 83rd NY, and perhaps earlier associations in NYC, brought the LAMBERT and VAN BEUREN families in contact. Col. Michael M. van Beuren (1800-1878), who raised and originally led the 83rd, lived in NYC contemporaneously with John Lambert (1785-1858) = Francis' father.

These relationships were originally noticed by me on Aug. 29, 2020 {MMvB}

  • update of Jan 2022: Francis' family had long term leases on lots on 14th street, Manhattan in the same block as Col. M.M. van Beuren, See Francis' father John's profile,
