About Pvt. Henry Harris Fink
Life
Henry Harris "Harry" Fink was a farmer by trade and the husband of Catherine Ann Jacoby Fink. On September 9, 1861, he enlisted at the rank of private with Co. A, 87th Pennsylvania Infantry, understating his age by eight years. As a fifer, he also frequently played the role of musician. (George Prowell relates a funny story about Henry and his fifing in his regimental history.) Captured at the battle of Carter's Woods on June 15, 1863, he was imprisoned on Belle Isle at Richmond. After exchange, like many others, he deserted from Camp Parole, Annapolis, Maryland, but returned on his own and returned to active duty October 5, 1863.

(History of the Eighty-seventh regiment, Pennsylvania volunteers by George Reeser Prowell. Pages 22, 43, 227 and 228 mention Henry "Harry" Fink and his Fife Playing.)
