Pvt. William Junkins was born in Hollis Center, York County, Maine and resided in Kennebunk, Maine. He enlisted at the age of 27 on the 15th of August 1862 and was mustered in on the same day into CO F, 8th Maine Infantry. He was captured at Drewry"Bluff and died of disease while a POW at Libby Prison. His brothers Albert P. Junkins and Horace T. Junkins also served in the same unit as William.
