CARTER, Wiley Pvt. Enlisted 30 July 61 Americus, age 20. Company A. 11th Battalion Georgia Volunteer Artillery Wounded 24 May 64 Hanover Junction, VA (Battle of North Anna River). Surrendered 10 May 65 Tallahassee, FL. Paroled 18 May 65 Albany, GA. Born November 18, 1841. Died September 18, 1904.

Information from "The History of Schley County, Georgia", compiled and sponsored by the Schley Co. Preservation Society, c. 1982 W H Wolfe & Associates, pages 180- 181, quotes the lineage of Wiley Carter as it first appeared in "Georgia Life Magazine" (By Kenneth H. Thomas, Jr) Winter, 1976. In this reprint of the lineage of Wiley Carter, this gentleman is listed as Wiley Carter Jr (1841-1904) who served in Capt. Cutts Co of Sumter Flying Artillery unit of the CSA with his brothers, Littleberry, and Jesse T. (They enlisted in Americus, GA in 1862) The article says that Wiley Jr. married Rachael D. McGarrah in 1864, lived in Richland and they are buried at Harmony Cemetery, Richland.
