About Pvt. William Deal, CSA
William Deal, aged about 17, and his brother James Deal, about 14, both enlisted in Co. C, 11th Battalion Georgia Infantry ("Bulloch Guards") on the day it was organized, 4 March 1862. Records from the 11th Battalion show that William died 10 May 1862 at Savannah.
The 11th Battalion was merged into the 47th Georgia Volunteer Infantry on 12 May 1862. James was discharged for being underage on 7 October 1862.
William's young widow Eliza filed a claim with the Office of the Confederate States Auditor in February 1863. From available records it appears she never remarried.
