Company K "Catawba Braves" of Catawba County, 46th North Carolina Infantry, Cooke's Brigade, Heth's Division, 3rd Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A.
Residence Catawba County NC; a 27 year-old blacksmith.
Enlisted on 3/13/1862 at Catawba County, NC., on 4/16/1862 he was mustered into "K" Co. NC 46th Infantry as a Private.
Listed as "Sick in quarters" on the March & April 1863 Roll, he was granted a 12-day furlough. He was late returning and was considered as having deserted 8/19/1863; he returned 9/28/1863 and was arrested. After serving his punishment, he returned to duty 3/30/1864.
The 46th Infantry Regiment, organized in March, 1862, at Camp Magnum, near Raleigh, North Carolina, contained men recruited in the counties of Robeson, Rowan, Burke, Warren, Richmond, Granville, Moore, Randolph, Sampson, and Catawba. The unit suffered 54% disabled of the 540 engaged at The Wilderness.
