Mosze Segal was born in Szniadowo in 1878 to Gabriel and Khana. He was a chief rabbi and married to Lea nee Fish. Prior to WWII he lived in Lodz, Poland. During the war he was in Ostrowiec, Poland. Mosze perished in 1942 in the Shoah

סגל, משה מנחם, בן גבריאל. היה נכדו של הרב אליהו חיים מייזל מלודז'. נולד בתרל"ו,1876. אשתו, הרבנית לאה, היתה בקיאה בלשון הקודש ובתנ"ך, ובכל שבוע היתה לומדת פרשת השבוע עם בניה. בתרס"ה,1905, נתמנה לדיין ומורה הוראה בלודז'. ידע היטב אסטרונומיה ודקדוק עברי, ובמקצועות הללו הסתייע כדי לפתור בעיות בהלכה. היה מעורה בענייני הציבור. התמסר לפתרון הבעיות של העגונות מימי מלחמת העולם הראשונה, ובעניין זה שלח תזכיר אל הקונגרס הבינלאומי של נשים שהתקיים אחרי המלחמה, כדי לדון במעמדן של נשי הנעדרים. כשכבשו הגרמנים את לודז' הם התעללו בו, ובין היתר דרשו ממנו לבוא אל בית הכנסת בטלית ותפילין ושם לקרוע את ספרי התורה. לכן ברח לוורשה, ומשם לאוסטרוביץ, שעל יד קיילצה, שם נספה בתש"ב,1942.

אחרי פטירת הרב גבריאל סגל נתמנה בנו, החתן הנ"ל, הרב משה מנחם יוסף סגל לממלא מקומו ברבנות לודז' כפי שמעידה החותמת על הספר "קרן אורה". לר' משה מנחם יוסף היתה אמנם ספריה גדולה בביתו, שרבים דרשו לפתחה. עם בא הנאצים ללודז' בתשרי ת"ש (1939) התחילו הרדיפות האיומות אחרי יהודי לודז' וביחוד אחרי הרב ר' משה מנחם יוסף סגל, שלבסוף נאלץ לברוח לכפר נידח ולהתחבא מהתעללות הנאצים נגדו. שם נפטר על מיטתו כתוצאה מענויי הנאצים ימ"ש.

הרב הגאון ר׳ משה מנחם יוסף סגל שליט״א נולד לאביו הרב ר׳ גבריאל ז״ל בעיר לורז׳ (פוילין) בשנת תרל״ח. נתחנך על ברכי אביו הגאב״ד שניאדובה - לודז׳ ועל ברכי זקנו הגאון ר׳ אליהו חיים מייזל ז״ל. בתרס״ה דומ״ץ בלודז'. מתרע״ד ראב״ד בלודז׳. מח״ס שו״ת ובהלכה (כ״י) גדול בתורה ובחכמה ובעסקנות. מגדולי הרבנים המפורסמים שבדורנו. נצר מגזע הרמ״א. ״מגלה עמוקות״, מהרש״א והקדוש ר׳ ישראל מריזינאי זצ״ל.
