R' Shaul Alter, Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivat Sefas Emet, Jerusalem

Rabbi Shaul Alter is the leader of a part of Chassidut Gur, he served as the rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivat Sfat Emet until 5776.

Born in Jerusalem to his father, Rabbi Pinchas Menachem Alter, head of Yeshivat Sfas Emes and later the Admor of Gur, and to his mother Zippora, daughter of Rabbi Avraham Mordechai Alter (son of Rabbi Moshe Bezalel Alter, brother of the Admor Imrei Emes of Gur). Named after his mother's grandfather, Rabbi Shaul Moshe Silberman. He studied at the Imrei Emes Yeshiva in Bnei Brak and his father at the Sifat Emet Yeshiva. While he was a fellow, he repeatedly completed the Shas.

He married Naomi, the daughter of Rabbi Haim Dov Rubinstein of Haifa in Sivan 5763.

After his marriage he lived a few years in Haifa, where he had a position in Yeshivat Ohr Simcha, at the same time he gave in-depth lectures in Yeshivat Beis Yisrael in Ashdod, After his uncle R' Simcha Binum Alter passed away, he moved to Jerusalem upon the instruction of his father, in Tamuz 5753 his father appointed him as head of Yeshivas Sfat Emet where until 5763 he gave daily lectures, his style of study is generally like the Chazon Ish, in 5776 his Yeshivah was closed but he stayed with the title 'Rosh Yeshivas Sfas Emes'.

His students published a book series called "Yalkut Shiurim", based on his lessons on the Shas.In Shvat 5773, his students published a book of his sermons, "Abra Dedasha" (Door Lock, Aramaic). In 1958, in honor of his young daughter's wedding, his students published a compilation book of notes and novelties from his writings on various books, entitled "Litsdodin Kotoni," as well as "Abre Dedasha" Part II.

Rabbi Alter is a member of the vaad hayeshivot and the Mifal haShas.

Rabbi Alter has two sons and two daughters. Her daughter Ruth Kepler is a writer and educator. His son Yehuda Arie Leib is the son-in-law of Rabbi Yechezkel Meyerson, the head of the Sharei Torah Yeshiva.
