About R. Yoel Feivish Margolis-Schtengen

Rabbi Yoel Feivish Stangen was the son Itzchak Stangen. Several sources indicate that he was born in Germany likely around 1520-1540. One researcher indicates specifically that he was born in the town of Jűlich near Koln (Cologne). Yoel married Fraidchy Schmelkes, the daughter Yehoshua Schmelkes and is the father of HaRav Menachem Mendl Stangen-Margolioth rabbi of Pińczów and later of Prezmysl.

G6.6 R' Isaac Katz, Darshan of Prague and Lublin, ABD of Stepan married Edel, daughter of R. Menachem Mendel, son of Joel Margolis-Schotengen.

“In Pińczów, the earliest evidence of a rabbi names Menachem-Mendl Stangen-Margolioth (d. 1652), who lived there from 1615 to 1635. He was born in German, married a daughter of the head of the yeshiva in Kazimierz, Moses Mordechai Margolioth, and after her death in 1624, married a daughter of Moses Harif, the head of the Rabbinical Court in L’viv.6”
