Rabbi Avraham Yosef HaLevi, of Tiberias

(Segal is not a surname in this case; it is only an alternative to the epithet 'haLevi' (the Levite). He had no recorded surname; neither he nor his father are recorded using their ancestral surname, Horowitz. He was more often simply referred to (in writing) as Rabbi Avraham Yosef haLevi, and called Rebbe Alter - Alter is an auspicious nickname given for protective reasons.)

The wrong date of death (31 May 1876) appears in many sources due to a poor transcript of his Hebrew date of death from his original headstone.
