Rabbi Jonas [Jonathan] Tauber, b. Leipnik, 1771, was the son of Rabbi Aron Tauber (1741-1814) and his first wife, Sara (HaKohen) Tauber. He moved to Vienna, but maintained a residence, as well as his familiant status, in Leipnik. He was a rabbi but also a businessman.
He died in Vienna on 20 Feb 1842: “Jonas Tauber, age 70, from Leipnik, d. Vienna, 20 Feb 1842.” He was a Baumwollwarenfabrikant -- “producer of cotton goods”.
His first wife was Rebeka (Rivka). She died in Vienna about 1814. In 1834, perhaps to commemorate the 20th anniversary of her death, candles in her honor were lit in Vienna.
Jonas m. 2nd, c1816, Josefine Telscher, b. Nikolsburg, 1795, much younger than himself. “Josefine Tauber, geb. Telscher, age 88, b. Nikolsburg, d. Vienna, 24 Jul 1883.” They were the parents of four sons.
