R' Markus [Meir] Teomim was born in Lissa, Posen [now Leszno, Poland] in 1732. By the late 1780s, he is seen residing in Holesov, Moravia where he died in household #7 on 13 Oct 1794, age 62.
In Holesov, he was known by his civil name -- Markus Zwillinger [Zwillinger and Teomim are both translated to mean "twin"]. Holesov records also refer to him as "Meir Lissa", indicating that he used the place of his birth as a surname. Additionally, he occasionally used the surname "Pollak" -- denoting he was from the region of what is now Poland.
A Holesov record in 1786 refers to him as “Mayer kevod ha’rav Mi Lissa” — Meir, the honorable Rabbi from Lissa. Another record the same year calls him “Meir b’ r’ J m’Lissa” [Meir of Lissa, son of R’ J (= R’ Joseph)].
He is seen in Holesov records as early as August 1777, and probably moved there from Lissa earlier that same year. A legal document, dated 1 Jul 1794, shows that he had been residing in House No. 8, Holesov, since 27 Aug 1777; he remained there until his death (13 Oct 1794). His place of residence at the time of his demise is given as the adjoining household - House No. 7.
Markus' wife, Barbara, died in household #8, 9 Jul 1800, "age 76" [likelier 73]..
