Article in the magazine "The Israelite" from March 1, 1886: Rabbi Salomon Bodenheimer n "a (sc." His peace is bliss "= Eden). Mainz , February 24 (1886) . We have just come back from Biblis, whereas we were rushed to pay tribute to the late dear friends last respects. from all sides, from near and from afar, the friends and admirers of the departed had hastened, of Frankfurt, Mainz, Darmstadt, Worms, Mannheim, Wiesbaden, Stuttgart, Colmar etc. etc. At the bier first said Mr. Rabbi Dr. Marx from Darmstadt, a close relative of the departed. In nearly one-hour speech, he developed a wonderful life image of the noble dead, portraying how the same have been enthusiastic about the Torah as he Abodah operated (sc Mass.), as he Gemiluth Chassadim practiced (sc charity.), always doing sayings of holy Scripture and the ways of the Midrash applying and explaining -. Then grabbed Mr. Rabbi Dr. Lehmann of Mainz the word to to devote the precious friends a few words of the obituary and also to exhort the congregation Biblis to fill the ruptured by death gap as possible to banish strife and discord from their midst and to preserve the institutions in love and harmony erect, immortalized with unspeakable effort and great sacrifices launched.

Salomon BODENHEIMER (**) - RABBI of the BIBLIS community in Southern Hessen, Germany. Founder of the TALMUD-TORA school, etc... in Biblis. 1813–1886 // Birth 1813 • Biblis, Bergstraße, Hesse, Germany // Death 23 FEB 1886 • Biblis, Germany

From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biblis

In Biblis there was a Jewish community from the 18th century until 1938. In the mid 19th century, the Jewish community numbered some 200, roughly 8% of the wider community's population. Under Rabbi Salomon Bodenheimer (1813–1886), a Talmud-Torah school and other institutions were founded, which were of great importance to Jews far beyond as well as in Biblis. The community's synagogue was built in 1832 on the lot at Enggasse 6. On Kristallnacht (9 November 1938), it was desecrated by SA members, who thoroughly destroyed the inside, after which it was used for other purposes; in 1981, it was torn down. A memorial stone still recalls the now long-gone building. At least 13 Jewish former inhabitants of Biblis were deported to the death camps where they were murdered.

In the magazine “Der Israelit” from March 1, 1886, Salomon Bodenheimer was honored with the following words:

“.... His charity knew no bounds. Those seeking help were supported, the hungry were fed, the naked were clothed. Wherever any institution promoted the purposes of Judaism, it found in the immortalized the most zealous participant and sponsor. As a mohel he enjoyed a good reputation and was entrusted with this sacred function throughout the surrounding area, which also required great sacrifices, especially from poor parents. He was a highly respected personality among the most distinguished rulers of his immediate fatherland and as a result was sometimes able to achieve great success for the poor and the oppressed. It was a rich, rich life that is now complete, rich in noble, good deeds, rich in true fear of God and inexpressible love for humanity. The poor of the holy land have also lost a loyal friend and active helper in him. ..
