Rachel (Merrill) Porter had three sons, Robert, Edward and Noah, and a daughter Sophia. the sons were all clergymen. The youngest, Rev. Noah Porter, D. D., was for more than sixty years pastor of the church in Farmington. At his house was held, Sep 10 1810, the first meeting of the American Board of Copmmissioners ofr Foreign Missions. His son Ref. Dr. Noah Porter was President of Yale College 1871-86. Sophia Porter married Rev. Heman Humphrey, D. D., President of Amherst College 1823-45.
