About Rachel Rozi Wolf
Rachel Wolf was lovingly called Rozji-Babes by her family and friends. Born in 1920 she was the youngest daughter to her parents Chaim and Chaya Wolf. Shindy Kestenboum, Moshe and Avi´s mother, remembers her aunt Rachel as an affectionate bright young girl. They were the same age and very good friend. On Passover of 1944 the Germans in Pursuit of the “Judenfrei” strategy, "freed" the Tekovo area of all of its Jewish citizens, so that it stays ”Judenrein" a clean of Jews zone. They loaded all remaining Jewish families including the Wolf-Icovic family into freight cars and took them to Auswitz. Awaiting them was Dr. Josef Mengele and while he condemned the elderly Chaya Wolf to “Camp A” which later turned out to be the Crematorium, he spared Beautiful young Rachel’s life by selecting her to join the line of the living. Rachel looked at her aged sick mother Chaya, and knew she should accompany and help her settle in the new relocation place until she gets better. And so she took her mother by the hand hugged her and they both entered the devils inferno. Let them for ever be remembered.
