Location of death:
au château de Roucourt (entre Pecquencourt et Arleux, aux confins de Cambresis). The location of Roucourt is important as it is recorded as the location of the death of two consecutive Rasse in 1148 and 1150 and the death of Gilles de Chin first husband of Eve in 1137. The location of Roucourt seems to have been important because it was near a bridge on the old Roman road, the only river crossing.

_____________
According to the chronicler Jean de Guise, he took a striking revenge for the insults he received from the Count of Flanders, and he was not afraid to wage war against the Count of Hainaut over the foundation of the tower and castle of Ath, which he claimed belonged to his wife.

It must be said that Gilles de Trazégnies, brother of Anselme de Silly, before leaving for the crusades in 1136 sold the land of Ath which came to him from his grandmother Beatrice d'Ath to Baudouin de Hainaut. The son-in-law of Ade d'Ath, sister of the aforementioned Beatrice, did not accept to be deprived of his rights on this land. The dispute was settled, after many years of mutual intimidation, between the son of Rasse de Gavre & Ide de Chièvres and Baudouin de Hainaut, who ended up incorporating the châtellenie of Ath into the county of Hainaut and built a castle there.

He died during a battle between Thierry d'Alsace, count of Flanders and Baudouin de Hainaut. Baudouin came to take back the castle of Raoulcourt that he had built from Thierry d'Alsace, who occupied it. Rasse perished in the assault (Annales du Hainaut, XII, 9).

Some authors say that he was buried in Ghislenghien. This is probably a confusion with his father who had died a year earlier. - In 1127, he was put at the head of the troops that the Ghent people sent to Bruges, to avenge the death of Charles leBon

He was father of Rasse de Gavre and of Béatrice dite Berthe de Gavre ép. Eustache du Roeux dit Le Valet.

He was a faithful vassal of Thierry of Alsace, Count of Flanders.
He was one of the main characters of the count of Flanders at the court of the count Charles le Bon. After the assassination of the latter, he served Thierry d'Alsace, Count of Flanders, and joined the camp of the bourgeois. To illustrate with a symbol the policy he had championed, he adopted the chaperon or caplet (chaplet), the headdress of the bourgeois, as his crest, which he placed on his knight's helmet. His motto was: "Gavre au chapelet".

sgr of Chièvres in 1138 by his wife, baron of Flanders, peer of Hainaut, sub-principes of Liedekerke at the death of his mother By his marriage, Rasse VI became lord in Hainaut and sat in the council of this county. To ensure that all these buildings could be maintained in the long term, she made donations and waived certain taxes to which she was entitled, in their favor. Two of these buildings have been perfectly restored and are open to the public. Rasse VI died in Roucourt during a siege led by the Count of Flanders against the Count of Hainaut, both his suzerains! Rasse III de Gavre (died in 1150) : Vassal of Baudouin V, "le Courageux", Count of Hainaut, around 1170. Contemporary of Philippe Auguste x Isabelle de Hainaut, his sister, and of Richard Coeur de Lion. He is son of another Rasse de Gavre and Ide d'Ath, second daughter of Gauthier. He marries Lady Ide de Chièvres, who is the second marriage: she is the widow of Gilles de Chin (a second Gilles de Chin who died in 1137 under Baldwin IV). He thus becomes also lord of Chièvres with Nicolas de Rumigny. They also granted franchises and liberties to the said city in 1184. If the charter still exists, see seals? Construction of the chapel Saint Jean de la Ladrerie. (Maladrerie) in Chièvres. He was killed at Roucourt, between Péquencourt and Arleux, lands of Baudouin V. He was perhaps in Reims in 1179 at the coronation of Philip Augustus, among the 80 Knights accompanying Baldwin. (See Gislebert 97,98) He accompanied Baldwin V in 1172 to deliver Count Henry of Namur and Luxembourg, besieged in Luxembourg. He was with 340 knights, including Jacques d'Avesnes. (Reiffenberg II,33- Gisleb.77- J. de Guyse XII) He was already there in 1150, or was it his father? under Baudouin IV, Count of Hainaut, "the Builder", who, in war with Thierry of Alsace, buys the Land of Ath from Gillion, lord of Trazegnies, who is looking for funds to leave for the Holy Land; (Baudouin buys also Braine-la-Wilhote, which becomes Braine le Comte) . Rasse de Gavre is then a vassal of Flanders, son of Another Rasse de Gavre and Ide d'Ath, second daughter of Gauthier. He pretended the sale was illegal, but without success. He betrayed his suzerain in 1167 (Gisleb.53, Bald.Avenn 41, Vinchant II, 252, G.J. de Boussu, "Histoire de la ville d'Ath" Mons 1750) 1182 Conflict between Henri, Duke of Brabant, son of Godefroid, and Baudouin V (affair of Lembeck).
