Raymord & Dora married at ages 20 & 16 years old. They lived on place owned by Charley Earls for 3 weeks after marriage. He worked for Harry Hedley for $1.00 per day. Moved to Harry Hedley place for 3 years. Bought farm now owned by Ed Metzenfelt, lived there about 6 years. Then bought the Cornelius Collier farm (185 acres). Sold 35 acres to Theodore Miller. Raymond also worked on his farm and Dora took care of 7 children, gardening, canning fruits and vegetables.

Dora also worked out for people:cleaning houses, babysitting, picking grapes. The Baker family had plenty of food during depression times:owned cows, hogs, chickens, raised corn and wheat for bread. Owned molasses mill. Dora's specialty was big sweet potatoes and turnips. Owned cream separator, had butter and cream for home use and sold cream.

They carried their drinking water 1/4 mile down the road from a spring. Kept milk and butter in this spring. They carried their wash water 1/4 mile from a branch. Did her washing on a board for 9 people, heated water on cook stove to wash with. Heated water on cook stove to wash with. Heated the iron on wood stove to iron with. In summer would move everything to branch to do washing. Helped Raymond plant crops, strip cane, work in hay feild. Had thresher in to do threshing. She would cook big meals with help from there neighbors. They would have 5 or 6 apple pies, stacked on top of each other as they didn't have enough plates to put each one on. They kept the flies off of the table with a branch from peach trees, they had no sceen doors. While working in the field she would carry 1 of her children in one arm and pick beans with the other hand.

They enjoyed life and had hardships and good times.
