Biography

Rebecca Gault/Golt, daughter of William and Mary Gault was born about 1641, probably at Salem, MA. The baptisms of her sisters are recorded in 1648, however, Rebecca's birth/baptism is not.[1]

Rebecca Gault married John Bligh/Bly on November 11, 1663 at Salem, MA. (p. 309/10)[2] John Bly was of Salem as early as 1653, aged fourteen years. He was a brickmaker by trade. [3]

The administration of the estate June 26, 1660, of William Golt, of Salem, MA who died intestate, was granted to his widow, Mary. [Salem Quarterly Court Records: Vol 4; leaf 39]. In the estate are mentioned their daughters, Rebecca aged 19 years, Deborah aged about 15 years and Sara aged about 13. [Essex Co. Quarterly Court Files: Vol. 5: leaf 112] (Vol. 1: p. 315)[1]

In the settlements of will of Richard Bishop who died at Salem Dec. 13, 1674, John Bligh calls him 'father Bishop'. Richard Bishop had married as his second wife, in July 1660, Mary Gault, widow of William Gault. William Gault died on April 1, 1659 at Salem. This establishes Rebecca as the daughter of William and Mary (___) Gault. [2]

In depositions of Mary Gault Bishop she was born about 1610/11. After Bishop's death, Mary married thirdly Thomas Robins about 1675.[2]

Rebecca's father William was aged 29 and of Yarmouth, Norfolkshire, England when passing the exam to come to New England in 1637. [4] He came, unmarried on the ship Mary Ann embarking on May 11. 1637. [3]

Rebecca was still living in 1713. [3]
