Rebecca's grandchildren were engaged in litigation covering 20 years, which ended finally at the Supreme Court.
Rebecca married secondly Matthew Apsden, and had a son Matthew Aspden, Jr., who died without issue, leaving an immense estate to his half-brothers and sisters and their representatives, ..."which as been a source of considerable agitation and litigation among the Hartley's to this day (1908). (Could this be the fellow who was a shipping magnate and owned the Philadelphia waterfront? And was this the origin of the Supreme Court decision that women could own property in the new USA?)
